If you're hunting for caffeine free drinks near FIU, you've probably noticed that a lot of menus are built around espresso, which doesn't leave much once you take the caffeine out. specialTEA is about two minutes from campus on Coral Way, and a surprising amount of our menu has nothing to do with coffee or the tea plant at all. Here's how to find it, whether you're cutting caffeine for the night, for the semester, or for good.
Caffeine free drinks near FIU, sorted by mood
The quickest way to think about it is to split the menu into three piles: drinks built on coffee, drinks built on true tea (black, green, white, oolong, matcha and chai), and everything else. That third pile is the one you want, and it's bigger than people expect from a tea lounge.
You want something cold and creamy. Start with the coffee-free frozen cremes. They live on the frozen side of our menu, right next to the frozen coffee blends, and they're the pick when you want something thick and cold without espresso in it. Like the rest of our frozen drinks and smoothies, they're vegan-friendly, with no added sugar and non-GMO ingredients.
You want something bright and fruity. The "Other" tab on the live menu is where the smoothies, sodas and lemonades sit. Lemonades and smoothies are the easy wins here, and since the lineup can change, the live menu is the best place to see what's pouring that day. A quick heads up on sodas: some bottled sodas do carry caffeine, so check the label or ask before you grab one.
You still want something warm. This is where the herbal end of our loose leaf list comes in. South African rooibos and Egyptian chamomile are both naturally caffeine free, and either one can be ordered as a hot pot or poured over ice. If you've read our other tea guides you already know the drill, so we'll keep this part short.
Caffeine free boba, and dairy free boba while you're at it
Boba is where people get tripped up, because a lot of bubble tea starts from a tea base. Thai tea and matcha boba, for example, are both built on caffeinated tea, so save those for the morning.
That doesn't mean boba is off the table. Our boba comes in milk teas, slushies and cremes, with classic tapioca pearls, popping pearls or fruit jellies, in over 10 flavors including taro and honeydew. If you want pearls without the buzz, tell the counter you're avoiding caffeine and ask which flavors they can make as a slushie or creme without a tea base. And because the menu says you can build your own boba with any tea, a rooibos milk tea with tapioca is a completely fair ask too.
A lot of people looking for caffeine free drinks are also skipping dairy, and that part is simple. We offer organic soy, almond and oat milk on every drink, so dairy free boba near FIU isn't a special request here. Pick your base, swap the milk, add your pearls, done.
If you're ordering for someone with a strict caffeine or dairy limit, just say so up front. The team would much rather double-check a flavor than guess.
Why a tea house near FIU works for the no-caffeine crowd
It sounds backwards, but a tea house is one of the better places to go when you're avoiding caffeine. When most of a menu is coffee, going caffeine free usually means settling. We pour 60+ loose leaf teas, never bags, and that range means there's a real caffeine free section instead of one sad herbal option. Add the frozen cremes, the lemonades and smoothies, and the boba slushies, and you can sit here for hours without drinking anything that'll keep you up.
And people do sit here for hours. We're open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Saturday from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. That's open until 11 PM six days a week, which is exactly when a no-caffeine drink matters most. The WiFi is free with no password and no time limit, there's a full shelf of board games, and the patio is there if you want fresh air between chapters. If you're planning a long session, our WiFi and study guide covers where to set up.
Something to snack on? The vegan cookies are baked fresh daily in six flavors, and they go well with basically anything on this list.
A few ordering tips before you come in
- Say "caffeine free" at the start of your order, not after you've picked a flavor. It saves a step.
- If you're torn between a hot and a cold drink, rooibos covers both.
- Want it on the way? You can order ahead for pickup on Toast, or get delivery through Uber Eats and DoorDash.
- If you come in a lot, join the Tea Circle rewards program so your regular order starts paying you back.
