If you're searching for chamomile tea near FIU, odds are you don't want a box of bags from the grocery store. You want a real cup, poured for you, somewhere you can sit down for a while after class. specialTEA Lounge is about two minutes from campus on Coral Way, and Egyptian chamomile is on our loose leaf list, brewed loose instead of from the dusty stuff inside a tea bag. Here's how to order it the way you'll actually enjoy it, what to eat with it, and where to sit once you've got it.
Where to get chamomile tea near FIU
We've been Miami's Original Tea Lounge since June 2009, in the Columbia Shopping Plaza at 10766 SW 24th St (Coral Way). Our tea list runs past 60 varieties of premium loose leaf, sourced from gardens around the world, and every cup starts with whole leaf, never the dust or fannings you'd find in conventional tea bags. Chamomile is one of the gentler things on that list. It's floral, a little honey-like, and naturally caffeine free since it's an herbal rather than a true tea, which is why it tends to be the order people land on once the coffee part of the day is over.
The team is trained to walk you through the tea menu, so if you've only ever had chamomile out of a paper sachet, ask how it's brewed here. Proper water temperature and steeping time make a real difference with a delicate cup, and a good one should taste like flowers, not like warm water with a hint of hay.
Three ways to order it
Chamomile doesn't have to be a quiet hot drink you only reach for when you're sick of everything else. Our loose leaf teas come as hot pots and as iced teas, and that opens it up quite a bit.
- A hot pot. The classic. A pot gives you a few cups' worth, which is exactly what you want if you're planning to read for an hour. It's the most forgiving way to taste what good chamomile is like.
- Iced. Miami doesn't always feel like hot tea weather, even in October. Iced chamomile is light and a little sweet on its own, and it's easy to keep sipping on the patio without feeling weighed down.
- As a boba base. The menu lets you build your own boba with any tea, so chamomile with tapioca pearls is a fair request. Just say so when you order. It's a mellow, caffeine free way to get your pearl fix at night.
If you like your tea creamy, every drink on our menu can be made with organic soy, almond, or oat milk. That's handy for chamomile, and it's also why the dairy free crowd doesn't have to settle here. The frozen drinks and smoothies are vegan-friendly with no added sugar and non-GMO ingredients, and there's a set of coffee-free frozen cremes if you'd rather have something cold and thick than a cup of tea. You can see all of it on the menu before you head over.
Late night dessert near FIU, with a cup to go with it
Chamomile is the kind of drink that begs for something sweet next to it, and the bakery case is built for that. Our vegan cookies are baked fresh daily in six flavors, including matcha chocolate chip and double chocolate, and they're the cookies everyone eats, vegan or not. A double chocolate cookie with a pot of chamomile is a soft, easy pairing, since the tea doesn't fight the chocolate.
If you want something louder, there's the Dubai smash croissant with pistachio kataifi, plus a Nutella smash and a dulce de leche smash. Chamomile works well with those too, because a floral cup gives you a break between bites of something that rich. And since we're open later than most bakeries, dessert doesn't have to end when the sun goes down.
Coming in hungry instead of craving sugar? Our signature breakfast sandwiches are on butter croissants with organic eggs, and the vegan side goes beyond cookies, with plant-based proteins like TVP and beefless strips for sandwiches and wraps. That's worth knowing if you're after a vegan breakfast near FIU before an early class.
An outdoor study spot near FIU that stays open late
Here's the part that matters most if you're a student. We're open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Saturday from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. That's open until 11 PM six days a week, so a late pot of chamomile after a long day on campus is actually doable.
Take it outside if the weather cooperates. Our colorful patio has fresh air and natural light, and it's one of the easier outdoor study spots near FIU to settle into with a notebook. Prefer the inside? There's comfortable seating, warm lighting, chill music and a chalkboard look that feels like home. The WiFi is free and high-speed, with no password and no time limit, and our WiFi and study guide covers where to sit and what to expect on a long session. When the reading's done, grab a board game from the shelf and let the night go a little longer.
Short on time? You can order ahead for pickup on Toast, or get delivery through Uber Eats and DoorDash, and joining the Tea Circle gets you exclusive deals, new menu drops and birthday treats.
Free parking is right out front in the Columbia Shopping Plaza lot, and the visit page has directions from FIU, Coral Gables, Kendall and beyond. Come by specialTEA for a pot of Egyptian chamomile and a cookie, and stay as long as you like. Come for the tea, stay for the vibes.
