Searching for matcha near FIU usually turns up spots halfway across Miami, which is not much help when you have forty minutes between classes. The short answer is that you can stay in the neighborhood. specialTEA Lounge sits about two minutes from campus on Coral Way, we have been pouring tea here since 2009 as Miami's original tea lounge, and matcha shows up on our board in more than one form.
Here is what that actually looks like when you walk in, plus what to eat with it and where to sit if you are planning to stay a while.
Where to Find Matcha Near FIU
We are at 10766 SW 24th Street (Coral Way) in Miami, FL 33165, inside the Columbia Shopping Plaza in Westchester, which puts us right around the corner from Florida International University. Free parking is available in the plaza lot directly in front of our door, so there is no garage to circle and no meter to feed. Look for the colorful patio.
Timing works in your favor too. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Saturday from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. That covers an early weekday matcha before a morning lecture and a late one when you are still working through a problem set at ten at night. If you want the full directions, parking notes, and drive times from Coral Gables, Kendall, Doral, and Sweetwater, they all live on our Visit page. And yes, plenty of our Westchester neighbors search for a matcha latte cerca de mi and end up in the same plaza.
Three Ways We Pour Matcha
Most places give you one matcha option and call it a day. We treat it the way we treat the rest of the menu, which is to say there is more than one way to drink it depending on the weather and your mood.
- The matcha latte. The classic, built with organic soy, almond, or oat milk if you want it dairy free. Those milks are available on every drink we make, not just a select few.
- Matcha boba. Matcha is one of the flavors in our boba lineup, alongside taro, thai tea, honeydew, and more than ten others. Add classic tapioca pearls, popping pearls, or fruit jellies, and you have got a drink that doubles as a snack.
- The matcha freeze. This is the Miami answer. It is a blended frozen matcha that sits on the same part of the menu as our frozen coffee blends, the chilly vanilla chai, and our coffee free frozen cremes. Our frozen drinks and smoothies are vegan friendly with no added sugar and non-GMO ingredients, which matters if you are trying not to crash an hour later.
If matcha is not what you came for, there are more than 60 premium loose leaf teas behind the counter, from Chinese green and Taiwanese oolong to South African rooibos and Indian spiced chai. Every cup is brewed from loose leaf, never bags. Our coffee is USDA organic, fair trade certified, and roasted locally in Florida, including a cold brew we let go for 16 or more hours.
Breakfast, Lunch, and Something to Go With It
Since we open at 8:00 AM on weekdays, a matcha run doubles as breakfast near FIU. Our breakfast sandwiches are built on butter croissants with organic eggs, and they are made fresh daily rather than reheated out of a case.
Come back at midday and lunch is handled too, with signature chicken and brisket sandwiches, wraps, and salads made fresh the same morning. The bakery case is worth a look on the way out: vegan cookies in six flavors baked daily, the viral Dubai smash croissant with pistachio kataifi, plus Nutella smash and dulce de leche smash.
Stay for the Study Session
A lot of people who come in for matcha end up staying for three hours, and that is by design. We have free high speed WiFi with no password and no time limits, a full library of board games and card games that anyone can pull off the shelf, comfortable seating inside, and an outdoor patio when you want fresh air instead of fluorescent lights.
That combination makes us a reliable group study spot near FIU, especially in the evening when campus study rooms are booked solid and you need somewhere that stays open until 11 PM six days a week. If you want the details on outlets, seating, and the best times to grab a table, we wrote all of it down in our guide to working from the lounge.
When you are short on time, order ahead for pickup on Toast and skip the line, or get it delivered through Uber Eats and DoorDash. Signing up for the Tea Circle gets you our rewards, deals, and new menu drops.
So the next time matcha near FIU comes up in your group chat, you know where to send everyone. Come for the tea, stay for the vibes, and grab a board game while you are here. We are at 10766 SW 24th St on Coral Way, and the first matcha freeze is the one that gets people hooked.
